Outreach & Engagement

Outreach provides us with the opportunity to engage a client where they are; on their own turf, on their own terms, and work to develop a trusting relationship that will culminate in providing many services, including housing. As program participants are engaged, the process of providing housing services, physical and mental health care, benefits assistance, and more, commences.

Our mobile service-rich outreach teams target some of the most vulnerable members of our community: homeless tri-morbid (having mental illness, physical health problem/disability, and substance addiction) individuals on the street. Engagement services and physical and mental health care are provided directly on the streets if necessary.

We have geographically specific outreach teams which seek to serve specific populations or individuals within a targeted area. These are: Integrated Mobile Health (IMHT), Field Capable Clinical Services (FCCS), Homeless Multidisciplinary Street Team (HMST), Malibu Outreach Team, Pacific Palisades Outreach Team, Multidisciplinary Integrated Treatment (MIT), and the C3 and E6 Outreach Teams.

The Access Center: In addition to our mobile outreach teams, the Access Center in downtown Santa Monica serves as a safe space open daily for these vulnerable individuals to use. It is the point of entry for program participants and serves an average of 200-225 people daily.

The Access Center provides much needed services to low-income and no-income homeless individuals such as daily sack lunches and other meal programs, referrals to interim housing, community resources, a mail and message service, case management, emergency services and benefits assistance. Additional services include:
  • SHWASHLOCK: A shower, laundry, and locker program designed to provide program participants with the ability to maintain their hygiene.
  • The Access Center’s Outreach Team responds to calls from local businesses and community members and provides referrals to services for program participants.
  • An onsite medical suite in partnership with Venice Family Clinic provides much needed medical care to program participants Monday – Friday.
  • Housing placements

Operation Healthy Streets: Operation Healthy Streets is The People Concern's shower and laundry facility located in the Skid Row neighborhood of downtown Los Angeles. Operation Healthy Streets is home to one of only two public laundromat facility in all of Skid Row.
