Governor Gavin Newsom joined our outreach team along with State agencies, including DMV, CalFresh, and CalWorks, near the 110 freeway in downtown Los Angeles, to pilot Mobile Homeless Connect, a state-local initiative bringing support services directly to people experiencing homelessness. The three-day pilot was successful in engaging more than 100 people and connecting them to 260 services and benefits including housing referrals, food stamps and obtaining documentation such as birth certificates, IDs and driver’s licenses; enrollment in Medi-Cal, unemployment and disability benefits. People also received COVID-19 and Monkeypox vaccinations, if they chose. “People living in encampments often struggle to stitch together the services they need to get their lives back on track. Mobile Homeless Connect recognizes this reality and offers a new state-local approach to address it,” says Governor Newsom.
