During the coronavirus pandemic, Sonya struggled to find work. She quickly spent her savings on rent and when she could no longer afford her apartment, she was evicted and fell into homelessness. Our team met Sonya when she was living unhoused in Santa Monica. Together, our Housing Navigation and Case Management Teams worked to connect her to the services she needed to get back on her feet including income assistance, employment services and permanent housing. Today, Sonya is housed, healthy and safe in a home of her own. Sonya is on a path to full-time employment and hopes to start a business of her own one day!
“The People Concern connected me to so many resources. They were instrumental in getting me into housing and they continue to be that main piece in my life to help me maintain housing. They have done so much and they continue to work hard at fighting homelessness. I’m just so grateful that they’ve come alongside to help me. To have my own place means the world to me, there’s nothing like having a place to call your own,” says Sonya.
